The OPTS Government Relations & Public Affairs Knowledge Sharing Workshop with National Assembly Clerks was successfully held from 12th to 14th September 2025, aimed at fostering stronger engagement between the oil and gas industry and the legislature.
The ED OPTS emphasized the importance of alignment and collaborative knowledge exchange. The Clerk to the National Assembly underscored the value of constructive engagement and highlighted the pivotal advisory role played by Clerks in legislative processes.
Legislative procedures and oversight hurdles were examined, with Clerks acknowledging issues such as stakeholder evasiveness and the strain of repetitive data requests from various committees. Industry representatives raised concerns about the financial and operational burden of frequent data calls, advocating for hybrid and digital solutions to streamline information sharing.
The interactive Q&A session delved into technical and strategic topics including horizontal drilling, production integrity, crude theft, and HCDTF computations. In closing, both parties commended the workshop as a meaningful step toward enhanced collaboration and reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining the dialogue. We appreciate the GR&PA subcom leadership for this great achievement.
